K&N Delivers Big Power for 2011 & 2012 GMC and Chevy Trucks

Posted on Tuesday at 2:52

2011 and 2012 GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD and 2011 and 2012 Chevy Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD 6.0 liter gas engines are some of the more powerful available on the market today. Adequate airflow is the key to the performance of these large engines. On the flip side of the coin, every driver knows how important filtration is to a vehicle’s operation and engine longevity. To balance high airflow and high filtration efficiency, K&N has developed the 77-3076KTK performance air intake system for 2011 and 2012 GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD trucks with 6.0 liter engines.

Built for performance and show, the K&N 77-3076KTK High-Flow Performance Air Intake is a free-flowing mandrel-bent aluminum tube induction system designed to fit easily into 2011 and 2012 GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado 2500 and 3500 6.0 liter models. This air intake system comes with a K&N high flow air filter, a custom designed heat shield and lid to help keep engine heat away and all the necessary components needed for installation. The system has fittings for the crankcase breather hose and a mass air sensor adapter custom designed to perform with the factory’s electronics. On top of utilizing the highest quality, vehicle-specific components, the 77-3076KTK is also backed by K&N’s Million Mile Limited Warranty, giving owners the peace of mind to know that their investment is safe.

K&N air intake systems are a simple bolt-on installation that replaces the vehicle’s stock restrictive factory air filter and air intake setup. The 77-3076KTK is also designed to dramatically reduce intake restriction while it straightens air flow. This allows your vehicle’s engine to inhale a larger amount of air than the OEM air filter assembly. Less restriction means more usable horsepower, torque and acceleration throughout the engine’s RPM range. When dyno tested, the air intake system showed an estimated performance increase of 10 horsepower at 5033rpm and 10 lb-ft of torque at 4736rpm on a 2012 Chevrolet 2500HD pickup with a 6.0 liter V8 engine. The air intake system also allows for an increase in engine sound offering a deeper throatier roar when you step on the gas.

The performance air filter, part RF-1042XD, used on the 77-3076KTK intake is also washable and reusable. Being washable and reusable, the RF-1042XD air filter can go up to100,000 miles depending on driving conditions and it is easily cleaned using the K&N recharger kit meaning you can have more time on the road and less time changing expensive disposable air filters in your garage. The filter is designed with a woven oiled cotton media to ensure excellent filtration efficiency for engine protection.

The 77-3076KTK comes with step-by-step install instructions for easy installation. Including pictures of each component and area of the engine bay as parts get removed and installed. Average installation time runs less than 90 minutes depending on the installer’s skill level.

K&N manufactures many air intakes for Chevy Silverado 2500/3500 and GMC Sierra 2500/3500 trucks. See the Chevy Silverado 2500HD, the Chevy Silverado 3500HD, the GMC 2500 and GMC 3500 Truck Air Intake pages on KNFilters.com for details.

Canadians Love Big Trucks

Posted on Thursday at 2:59

If you watched that video, that is a big truck from Ontario, Canada. Sure, it may not have SoCal style, but props for how huge the truck is! If you still aren’t convinced that Canadians love big trucks, check out this article from The Globe and Mail. Canadians Like Little Cars, But They Really Love Big Trucks.

The article highlights a rancher in Saskatchewan who recently spent $60,000 on a big Duramax diesel truck. It also talks about the $30,000 – $40,000 Ford and Dodge trucks used by Canadians to haul snowmobiles, hunt in the snow, and pull boats. Apparently there are hundreds of thousands of Canadians every year who buy big trucks. What’s surprising to us is how Canadians love U.S. truck manufacturers, while shunning Toyota and Nissan. The big 3 U.S. truck manufacturers have 93% market share in Canada. I guess it makes sense since the Tundra, albeit solid, doesn’t really compare to a big F250 or 2500.

We’d love to see more aftermarket truck companies come out of Canada. Why isn’t there a Canadian suspension lift company? With tons of open terrain, Canada is a prime market for lifted trucks.

GM Ready to Take-On Tacoma Truck

Posted on Monday at 2:07

Do you remember the Chevy Colorado? How about the GMC Canyon? Maybe your old enough to remember the Dodge Dakota or the Ford Ranger. What do all these have in common? They’re small/mid-sized trucks that have been phased out of production due to the dominance of the Toyota Tacoma. Well, it appears that GM is ready to challenge Toyota’s kung-fu grip on this part of the market. That’s right, According to Detroit News, GM will be launching two new mid-sized trucks in 2014 to once again battle with the Tacoma.

GM’s North America President, Mark Reuss, was quoted as saying, “Don’t think of them as Canyon and Colorado replacements, because they’re not. We’d love to have a truck like a Chevrolet midsize truck go really attack the West Coast with a lifestyle truck that is really beautiful and fun. It’s a different positioning than a semi-serious, duty-cycle truck that we might do with a GMC Canyon.”

This is a good sign, as the Canyon and Colorado mostly reached people looking for a 2nd tier Tacoma. We think there is room for a competitor to the Tacoma, but GM will need to do something drastic to win over buyers. Adding a sport package to an ugly mid-sized truck and thinking truck enthusiasts will buy it would be silly. If instead, GM releases a clean mid-size truck with some differentiating factor (top tier gas mileage, extra power, etc), they can definitely make a run at Toyota. The Ranger was a great mid-size truck that tons of people modified into pre-runners, but Ford failed to innovate and the Ranger was known for breaking down. If GM’s new midsize trucks combine clean style with the ability to lift it, Toyota might get a little worried. Let’s see what happens…
