Lifted Truck Ideas
"Utility & Comfort"

Off-road enthusiasts have been riding the ridge between utility and comfort since the first DIY block & u-bolt lifts hit the dirt back in the 1960s. In the beginning, utility always won when it came to setting up lifted vehicles for the rigors of off-roading. After-all, an add-a-leaf set on a ‘66 Power Wagon is certainly functional, but it turns an already rough ride into a spine wrenching, internal organ crusher.

Then in the ‘80s, along with mullets and Oakley Blades, came radical advancements in suspension technology and truck parts in general, which made things inherently more comfortable. At this point, truck manufacturers had also joined in with factory off-road packages. Today, a well built off-road machine boasts a ride that rivals most luxury cars. But due to factors like ride height and safety, there are still some compromises in comfort.

On the comfort side (and speaking of ride height), we know how fun it is to watch folks struggle into your sky-high cab, but you gotta let the ladies step up in style with a set of power steps. And once inside the cab, treat your passengers and your seats to some truck seat covers for butt comfort and seat protection. And while you’re at it, toss in a set of floor mats to keep your carpets clean and to make the ride even more comfortable.

Now when it comes to lifted truck utility, truck lights (especially head lights and tail lights) are the key to seeing and being seen. If you love to off-road, there are plenty of options to guide you in the desert. If you prefer something more sporty, there are plenty of custom choices to combine style and utility. And as winter approaches, traction can be a problem for lifted trucks in the snow, even if you’re running big tires. So add a serious dose of utility with a set of snow chains to keep you and your big truck rolling steady all winter long.

When walking the tightrope between utility and comfort, you sometimes just can’t bolt on enough of the latter. So what’s a comfort-loving truck-hound to do? Get a trailer hitch and tow a rolling home-away-from-home. And, if your bank account runs as deep as your sense of comfort, a fifth wheel hitched out back delivers the ultimate combination of utility and comfort. So, whether you’re willing to churn your guts to slush in a hardcore utility rig, or treat yourself to the royal comforts of a fifth-wheel palace, striking the balance between utility and comfort is easier than ever.
